ABOUT US

The mecca of Nordic travelers?

Rõuge Parish is the natural paradise of South Estonia, enchanting visitors with its beautiful landscapes, rich cultural heritage, and diverse leisure opportunities. Here you will find the highest peaks in Estonia and the Baltic States, Estonia's deepest lakes, and a uniquely rolling hilly landscape that offers unforgettable experiences all year round.

Rõuge is a place where the Estonian landscape takes on an exceptionally concentrated form — where height and depth, history and wildness meet in a small area. Here, side by side, lie Estonia's highest peak, Suur Munamägi, and the country's deepest lake, Rõuge Suurjärv. The Nightingale Valley (Ööbikuorg), which connects seven lakes, guides you as if through time, while the Hinni Canyon and Luhasoo bog preserve something truly wild and untouched. And in the midst of it all — a silence broken only by birdsong.

Suur Munamägi, Vällamägi, the Rõuge Primeval Valley (Ööbikuorg) with its 7 lakes, Hinni Canyon, Luhasoo bog, and ancient, untouched forests.

The richness of the Rõuge region lies in its many layers. Rogosi Manor, Estonia's only fort-style manor, carries centuries of manor history. The Mõniste area has preserved stories of the Forest Brothers. Haanjamaa, Paganamaa, and Mehkamaa have kept their distinctive Võro language and heritage alive, including the UNESCO-listed smoke sauna culture, which continues to thrive to this day. Another unique layer is the history of dairy farming — founded in 1924, the Rõuge Dairy Association united eight cream stations and hundreds of local dairy producers, whose products even reached as far as England. Today, you can discover these layers for yourself — by participating in a hand-mowing competition, traditional scoop-net fishing, or an authentic smoke sauna ritual. Every village carries its own story, together weaving the rich tapestry of Rõuge's history.

Rogosi Manor, the Mõniste Peasant Museum, historic manors, churches, and an ancient farmstead invite you to step back in time and experience the authentic heritage of the region.

Within a relatively small area, you will find Estonia's highest peaks, deepest valleys, numerous lakes, the Luhasoo bog, Hinni canyon, and the Haanja and Karula uplands. Every season gives this landscape a unique face — the nature of Rõuge itself invites you on a journey of discovery, with hiking and nature trails full of authentic stories just waiting to be explored.

Explore trails of varying lengths and character, from skiing and snowshoeing to canoe trips and traditional push-net fishing.

The culinary landscape of Rõuge carries the unique touch of both local farms and restaurants. Meat smoked in the traditional smoke sauna at Mooska farm, local wine crafted from grapes grown on the slopes of the Haanja Uplands, and a selection of cheeses from Nopri, Andri-Peedo, and Metsavenna farms bring something truly unique and authentic to the table. The region's cafe-restaurants also draw inspiration from local ingredients and the surrounding forests — Suur Muna and Ööbikuoru Villa's restaurant Andreas offer a carefully crafted gourmet experience, Rõuge Kunstikuur Cafe is where Ukrainian and Estonian flavors meet, Haanja Kampsun cafe is the perfect spot to warm your toes after a day of hiking or skiing, and PuhmaPuhvet serves simple, hearty meals. In addition, the region's tourism farms will surprise you with their hosts' best dishes and genuine, heartfelt hospitality.

Smoke saunas and traditional sauna rituals, lakeside saunas, silent nature hikes, or swimming in wild lakes. Privacy and peace.

The heart of relaxation in Rõuge lies in its smoke sauna culture — a centuries-old tradition that remains very much alive today, where the fire, warmth, and ritual help to slow down both body and mind. Alongside this, unique tourist farms, villas, and micro-cabins await, where nature is just a step away and time moves at its own pace. Nature, warmth, and slowing down — this is the ultimate combination for a holiday here. As they say in Võrumaa: "Aigu om!" (There is time!)

Suitsusaunad ja saunatamine, järvesaunad, vaikuse matkad või ujumine metsikutes järvedes. Privaatsus ja rahu.
