Kavadi Kuurits 2026 Traditional Fishing Competition

For the sixth time, the Uue-Saaluse Village Society invites you to participate in a traditional fishing competition using an ancient, authentic tool—the scoop net (kuurits). By joining, you help us preserve our rich cultural heritage. The event will take place in the scenic Uue-Saaluse manor park, right by the beautiful Lake Kavadi.

For the sixth time already, the Uue-Saaluse Village Society invites you to participate in a fishing competition using an archaic fishing tool—the traditional push-net (kuurits). In this way, we help preserve our unique cultural heritage. The event will take place in the Uue-Saaluse Manor Park on the shores of Lake Kavadi.

Programme:
11:00- 12:00 Gathering and registration of teams
12:00- 13:00 Push-net fishing
13:00- 14:00 Weighing the catch, determining the winners
14:00-14:30 Performance by the ensemble Priitahtlikud Pillipiinajad
14:30- 15:30 Award ceremony of the fishing competition and auction of the catch
• Local food and handicraft fair open throughout the day
• To participate in the fair, please contact us
• The winner will receive a traveling trophy. In addition, our sponsors have provided exciting prizes for all participants.

Among all teams, we will raffle a pallet of wood pellets from AS Tartu Graanul.

Registration for the fishing competition: teams of 4 can participate, please bring your own push-net. Participation fee of €40 per team to be paid on-site in cash.

The participation fee includes a hearty push-net soup for every competitor, prepared by Ulgumaa Puhvet.
