Krabi Camping — Estonia's southernmost caravan park

In the village of Krabi, right near the Latvian border, lies a caravan park built on a former school sports field. The green grassy field has room for 64 spots with water and electricity connections, plus spacious areas for campers — pets are also welcome.

Krabi Camping is set up as a smart self-service: booking, entrance, and sauna use are just a couple of clicks away, without reception desks and queues. Electricity comes from solar panels. The surrounding area boasts the forests of Paganamaa, hiking and cycling trails, and lakes steeped in legends; the Pähni Visitor Centre and forest megaphones also await nearby. On-site, you can grill, fish, and heat up the sauna, with a village shop and tavern just 500 meters away.

This is a place for those who want complete peace — and at the same time wish to stand at the gateway to the paths of Paganamaa.

Tindioru Farm — a caravan park on the edge of the Rõuge primeval valley

In the village of Tindi, right on the edge of the Rõuge Ööbikuorg (Nightingale Valley), lies Tindioru Farm. The caravan park accommodates up to 25 caravans and houses up to 24 people, with electricity-equipped pitches and Wi-Fi available on-site.

The camping site is located right on the edge of the valley, overlooking the lakes of Rõuge — a fireplace and outdoor kitchen are available for guests. Clean healing spring water can be replenished directly from the valley. Caravans and motorhomes are provided with everything they need: washrooms, electricity supply, and a waste disposal station, plus a shower and sauna in the holiday home. Nearby, you will find the Pesapuu watchtower, the hiking trails of Ööbikuorg, and several lakes.

Tindioru Farm is also well-suited for larger groups — you can celebrate a birthday, wedding, or corporate event here, as in addition to caravan spaces, there are several accommodation buildings and holiday homes.

Kirbu Farm — private caravan parking in a scenic location

The third option is completely different — small and private. In the village of Kirbu, near Suur Munamägi, Kirbu Farm offers private caravan parking in a beautiful natural setting: electricity, clean drinking water, a natural body of water, a fireplace, and an outdoor toilet are available; camping is by agreement.

The price is 15 euros per night for two people, with 5 euros for each additional person. The contact is Riho (+372 5341 0241), who speaks Estonian, Russian, and English.

This is a place for those seeking a more intimate stay in a family yard or homestead — cozy and peaceful, without the hustle and bustle of a large park, yet still in the close neighborhood of Suur Munamägi.

Viitina am See — caravan stop in a manor park by the lake

The fourth option takes us to the village of Viitina, right next to the manor house in the manor park, bordering the Haanjamaa Nature Park. Viitina am See offers six caravan spaces, two of which are located right by Lake Viitina.

On-site, you can charge electricity, refill water, dispose of waste and empty tanks, use free Wi-Fi, a stainless steel grill, and garden furniture. The manor park features a playground with a climbing area for children and a swimming spot (sandy beach/pier) suitable also for toddlers. Fishing is possible, and the hosts are happy to help. For the curious, a wine cellar with wines from the Pfalz region is also open.

A stay costs 20 euros per night per caravan; during the cold season, an additional 0.50 euros/kWh is charged for electricity. Pets are welcome free of charge.

In addition to accommodation, Viitina am See offers motorcycle rentals ("we rent what we ride"), guiding and hiking services, transport, as well as wine and art — the hosts call themselves "foodies".

Nearby lies Suur Munamägi, the highest peak in the Baltic States, with its observation tower, Rogosi Manor, a sauna land with a smoke sauna, a motorcycle museum with more than 80 exhibits, and a small telecommunications museum — and, of course, the unique landscape of Haanjamaa Nature Park, which directly borders their lakeside property.

6 tourist recommendations for Rõuge Municipality: where you must stop with a caravan

Once you have parked your caravan, it is worth making a few stops to discover Rõuge Municipality. Here are six places we recommend to every passing caravan traveler.

1. Suur Munamägi. The highest peak in the Baltic States with an observation tower that opens up views over three countries. You can enjoy coffee in the tower, while at the foot of the hill, the cafe-restaurant Suur Muna awaits for a meal or to enjoy a private cinema experience.

2. Rõuge Ööbikuorg. One of the most beautiful primeval valleys in Southern Estonia, with several lakes and hiking trails hidden at its bottom. A great place to stretch your legs after a long drive.

3. Pesapuu observation tower. An observation tower designed like a bird's nest that offers a unique view of Võrumaa from above — a good stop when moving towards Tindioru Farm or Krabi Camping.

4. Paganamaa. A land of legends and lakes, where hiking trails lead through a mysterious landscape. Its proximity to Krabi Camping makes it a natural first or last stop before the Latvian border.

5. Hiking trails around the municipality. Rõuge Municipality offers hikers several longer trails — the Forest Trail (Metsa matkarada), the Vällamäe hiking trails, the trails of the Haanja Ski and Recreation Centre, and trails of various lengths in the Rõuge Primeval Valley. Additionally, there is an opportunity to discover the Luhasoo bog study trail. There is a suitable distance for everyone, whether you want a short stretch or a longer hike.

6. Beautiful lakes. There are a total of 123 lakes in the region, which means countless opportunities for both fishing and stopping. You can stop by the 7 lakes of Rõuge in the small town of Rõuge or at the Estonian Mother monument parking lot; Lake Vaskna, Lake Uue-Saaluse, the lakes of Paganamaa, and Lake Viitina in the immediate vicinity of Suur Munamägi also await nearby. As the landscape here is diverse, we kindly ask caravan travelers to take this into account and, if possible, visit the narrower paths on foot or by bicycle.
